Experts advise making, or updating, a home's inventory before dealing with a storm emergency, which can leave a home destroyed or severely damaged.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — With hurricane season 2013 expected to be very severe, the Staten Island Board of Realtors (SIBOR) encourages you to safeguard your home and protect your family by taking a few basic precautions.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts seven to 11 hurricanes in 2013; a typical year has six.  Nobody wants to see another destructive Hurricane Sandy, but it makes sense to be as prepared as possible.

According to HouseLogic.com, here are some important items that every home needs for an emergency:

  • Flashlights
  • Batteries
  • First Aid Supplies
  • Water and Food
  • Sanitation and hygiene supplies
  • Radio
  • Cash

SIBOR reminds you that planning ahead can make an emergency less threatening.
