Free educational event  presented by the Staten Island Small Business Development Center to take place April 22 in the Third  County Courthouse, Historic Richmond Town

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Is private information about your business not private enough? Would you know if a restricted area of your commercial premises had been violated? Do criminals see your business as an easy target?

New York City business owners wanting to protect their enterprises from crime are invited to attend a special gathering on April 22.
Presented by the Staten Island Small Business Development Center (SI SBDC), the free seminar, “Security and How to Protect Your Business,” will feature prominent experts from the fields of law enforcement, banking, and high-tech security systems. Guests will learn about the ways modern-day criminals can threaten the well-being of business owners, employees and commercial enterprises, as well as ways to avoid being victimized.

The event will take place on April 22, 9 to 11 a.m., in the Third County Courthouse, Historic Richmond Town, 441 Clarke Ave., Staten Island. Refreshments will be served.

“This seminar will enlighten business operators who are unfamiliar with the variety of scams and other crimes commonly perpetrated upon businesses,” said Dean L. Balsamini, director of the Staten Island Small Business Development Center. “Guests will learn how to better protect themselves, their workers and their enterprises.”

Speakers at the seminar will include:

  • David Frey, an assistant district attorney (ADA) and one of two deputy bureau chiefs of the Investigations Bureau, Office of Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan. The ADA, who has garnered more than 16 years as a prosecutor in the borough, will discuss “The Importance of Security within Your Business.”
  • Steve Coppola, founder and president of long-established APB Security Systems, will address the advantages of protecting a business with surveillance and central monitoring, and some of the latest safeguards available.
  •  Christopher Donahue, vice president and security officer, Northfield Bank (New York and New Jersey), who has more than two decades of fraud investigations to his credit, will highlight “The Risks Associated With Business Identity Theft.”
