Stapleton is a neighborhood on the come up. Like Williamsburg and Bushwick in Brooklyn, Long Island City in Queens, and Harlem in Manhattan, this home of the Wu-Tang Clan is set to become the next hot neighborhood bringing in new people and new businesses. To get in before the secret gets out, here are five of our favorite places to visit in Stapleton.

5050 Skatepark
Stapleton’s popular skate park was one of the first signs of change that came over the area when it opened just a few years ago. It has attracted a youth culture that was missing from Stapleton for years, as kids and young adults from all over the city make the trip to SI to experience this park firsthand.

Stapleton Library
A symbol of change and respect to our past comes no greater than a visit to the NYPL Stapleton Branch. The re-design added thousands of square feet, expanding the library to make it one of the biggest on SI. The original entrance was left intact and restored to its former glory, showing that while we are keeping up with that time, we haven’t abandoned our roots here in Stapleton.

Larkuwana
Larkuwana has the distinct pleasure of being one of the best places in the entire city that serves traditional Sri Lankan food. You can get lunch or dinner here, and on Saturdays and Sundays they serve an all-you-can-eat buffet for just $11.95.

Hashtag Bar
Hashtag Bar — the new venue to come out of the merge of Full Cup, Beer Goggles, and Bottomley’s — is more than just a coffee shop to the folks in Stapleton. This is a place where you can play checkers and chess in the morning while you wait for your cup of coffee. And when the sun goes down, you can see the many talented local acts in Staten Island play live.

Gatsby’s on the Bay
Gatsby’s on the Bay, one of the newer restaurants to pop up in Stapleton, has a 1920s theme inspired by The Great Gatsby. There are jazz events Fridays and Saturdays, and their prix-fixe meal options are Gatsby-themed.
