STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Sept. 6, 2017) – The Staten Island Board of Realtors (SIBOR) marked August 2017 by donating $15,000 to a pair of local initiatives dedicated to helping children with cancer.

The annual Realtors’ Challenge Cup fundraiser held earlier in the summer resulted in the presentation of a $7,500 check to each of the two recipients: Sunrise Day Camp – Staten Island, and Staten Island University Hospital Northwell Health, Ocean Breeze. The funds donated to the hospital are earmarked for its new
Kids Against Cancer Pediatric Oncology Center.

About Sunrise Day Camp

Sunrise Day Camp-Staten Island is a proud member of the Sunrise Association, whose mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings worldwide through the creation of Sunrise Day Camps, Year-Round Programs and
In-Hospital Recreational Activities, all offered free of charge.

The life of a child with cancer revolves around doctors, hospitals and treatment; siblings cannot bring home friends because of the fear of infection.

The JCC of Staten Island is partnering with Catholic Charities of
Staten Island and is utilizing the facilities at Mt. Loretto.

This beautiful setting serves as Sunrise Day Camp’s home base throughout the summer.

About Kids Against Cancer

Staten Island University Hospital Northwell Health together with Kids Against Cancer (KAC) will soon be able to expand services for the pediatric oncology patients of Staten Island.

SIBOR representatives donate $7,500 earmarked for the Kids Against Cancer Pediatric Oncology Center at Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) Northwell Health. Participating in the presentation are, from left, Michael Blasi, SIBOR president-elect; Ron Molcho, a SIBOR director and chairman of the 2017 Realtors’ Challenge Cup fundraiser; Dr. Philip Roth, SIUH chairman of Pediatrics; Dr. Sarah Vaiselbuh, SIUH director of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology; Annmarie Izzo, SIBOR event coordinator, and Greg A. KAC has announced a $1 million pledge to the creation of the new state-of-the-art outpatient infusion suite and treatment center for children with cancer and blood related disorders.

The new Center is envisioned as a place where children can be treated close to home but yet far removed from their disease. Some features will include a one-wall fish tank, running waterfall with teen’s corner, interactive video games and IT wall with touch-on screens, as well as an exposition of fluttering butterflies.
