Shape Up NYC offers free classes every week at multiple locations on the island and around NYC. Their classes are held at different recreation centers — you do not need to be a member to attend — and are taught by expert instructors that try their hardest to make fitness fun. Below are a few classes to try out, but be sure to check out Shape Up NYC’s website and Facebook page for more class options, full details, and schedule changes.

Mind Body Fusion at Conference House Park 
Shape Up NYC’s Mind Body Fusion class is low impact cardio followed by balancing stretches and meditation to raise heart rate, burn calories, reduce stress, and work out every muscle. Classes are Monday 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and Friday 1 p.m.-2 p.m.

Cardio, Zumba and more at Faber Park Field House
The Field House has multiple one-hour classes that help strengthen muscles and the cardio respiratory system and burn calories. Some classes incorporate easy-to-follow dance steps to increase cardiovascular fitness and tone the body. Cardio Burn is Monday at 5:30 p.m., Cross Training is Friday at 10 a.m., Dance & Fitness on Saturday at 1 p.m., Kettle Ball on Monday at 6:30 p.m., Zoomers on at Monday 10 a.m., Zumba Toning on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., and Zumba Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

Beginner classes at Greenbelt Recreation Center
These one-hour classes focus on strengthening and fine tuning major muscle groups at a lower intensity. Body Conditioning is Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., Low Impact Aerobics is Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., and Zumba is Monday at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 9:45 a.m.

Yoga at Walker Park
If a relaxing and calming work-out is more your speed, these one-hour classes focus on bringing awareness to the body, stretching, core strengthening, and flexibility. Yoga: Relax and Stretch is Wednesday at 7:30-8:30 p.m., Sweat Therapy is Tuesday at 7 p.m., Holistic Yoga is 10 a.m. on Thursday, and Stretch Workshop is Tuesday at 8 p.m.
