Medicare Open Enrollment Period for 2013 will end on Dec. 7
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Having survived Hurricane Sandy, many Staten Islanders, including members of the Staten Island Board of Realtors (SIBOR) are now dealing with government agencies, contractors, insurance companies and health issues as they attempt to put their lives back in order.
Here is an important reminder:
Along with taking steps to heal from the storm’s devastation, seniors and other eligible Islanders have one additional insurance concern at this time of year: Medicare.
“People should be reminded that the federal government’s Medicare Open Enrollment Period for 2013 will end on Dec. 7,” said Carmelo DeFranco, president of New York City (NYC) Business Group, one of New York’s leading insurance agencies.
Current or newly eligible Medicare beneficiaries, including people with Original Medicare, have just days to review their current health and prescription drug coverage, compare health and drug plan options available in our area, and choose coverage that best meets their needs.
“Choosing the right plan in so short a period of time, particularly while experiencing stress in the wake of Sandy, may seem like an overwhelming responsibility. But it doesn’t have to be,” DeFranco said. “We can help.”
