The St. George’s Waterfront Redevelopment Project won’t just be bringing the world’s tallest ferris wheel to Staten Island. A 350,000-square-foot, high-end retail outlet is on its way as well. Empire Outlets New York City will have 125 designer outlet stores, restaurants, cafes, a banquet facility and a 200-room hotel. The complex is being designed by SHoP Architects, the architecture firm also responsible for Barclays Center.
Inspired by Italian hill towns, ShoP has designed Empire Outlets to open onto the harbor using materials that reflect the industrial heritage of the waterfront. The entire complex is capped off with a sustainable green roof. Unlike traditional malls that are set off from the neighboring areas, Empire Outlets will feature underground parking enabling better connectivity from Richmond Terrace, the new stadium, the waterfront, and the Staten Island Ferry.
