NYC has the best pizza on the planet. Whether you eat it flat, folded, or like Mayor de Blasio (with a fork and knife), eating pizza is a part of life in New York. Not surprisingly, Staten Island has some of the best and oldest pizza joints in the city. Here are five pizza joints you should try in S.I.

Upper Crust
People enjoy Upper Crust’s cozy atmosphere, and the great pride the owner takes in his pizza. He takes the time to walk around the restaurant to hear what the customers have to say. Upper Crust may have the best meatballs on Staten Island — you can order them grilled or fried. And even if you think you’re too full for dessert, you’ll find yourself eyeing the Nutella pizza.

Pier 76
Since our last write-up, the reputation of Pier 76 has grown steadily. This former new kid on the block has made its mark with those living in the Bay Street area.
Joe & Pat’s Calamari Pie | Mike. P via Yelp
Joe & Pat’s
Pier 76 co-owner Jeremy Pappalardo worked here at the ripe age of 8 eight years old, and it’s the standard when it comes to pizza on Staten Island. The pizza joint has been delighting pizza gourmets and gourmands alike since 1960.
Half M.O.R./Half Garbage Pie | Julie. L via Yelp
Denino’s Pizza Tavern
One of the oldest pizzerias in the entire city can be found in Elm Park. Denino’s has been around for over 75 years, and this Staten Island standby is still run by the Denino family.
White Clam Pie | Mike K. via Yelp
Lee’s Tavern
Just three words should be enough to get you into Lee’s Tavern in Dongan Hills: White Clam Pie. Lee’s is so good that it was mentioned on Pizza Snob as Staten Island’s hidden gem for great pizza.
