This past Sunday, April 12, was the fifth annual Tour de Staten Island, organized by Transportation Alternatives.

About 2,000 cyclists showed up for 35- and 55-mile bike tours of the island, according to Streetsblog NYC. Organizers chose this year’s route with the goal of maximizing the cyclists’ time in the parks and minimizing their time on the city streets. Participants even got the chance to ride through five car-free miles of Freshkills Park, much of it still closed to the public.

Refreshments were provided at rest stops along the tour provided, and there was a beer waiting at the end courtesy of Flagship Brewery.
