Street will be closed to traffic and open for fun during annual event

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Tompkinsville will be buzzing on Sunday, Sept. 22, when the 2nd annual “Downtown Staten Island Weekend Walk” kicks off at 1 p.m.

Minthorne Street — home to Flagship Brewery, Daddy O’s BBQ, and Flour + Oak – will be closed to traffic and filled with FREE family-friendly activities.

The Staten Island Chamber of Commerce Foundation, through the NYC Dept. of Transportation’s Weekend Walks program, is working with the businesses to present a festive good time, as the street is turned into a public plaza for the day.

“We’re excited to present the Downtown Staten Island Weekend Walk program again this year, and Minthorne Street is a perfect spot.  Come meet your neighbors and friends and spend a day outdoors.  The restaurants and brewery will have outdoor seating for those who’d like to purchase some food and drink.  And the street will be alive with music and fun, free activities,” said Chamber President Linda Baran.

There will be something for everyone to enjoy, including:

  • A live band – Muddy Dog
  • Animals from the Staten Island Zoo
  • DJ’s from MakerPark Radio spinning tunes
  • A BMX bike and scooter demonstration by 5050 Skatepark
  • “Giant” games to play like Connect 4, Jenga, and a Life-Size Chess set
  • Face painting, temporary tattoos, and balloon artists
  • Cornhole and Pong tournaments
  • And more …
