Admission-free public event hosted by the Staten Island Board of Realtors® will feature New York City Down Payment Assistance Program and an array of financial experts from private enterprises and government agencies

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Future homeowners will gain clarity of vital financial tenets needed to smooth their path to homeownership, and beyond, during an in-person workshop Oct. 17 on Staten Island.

Hosted and facilitated by the Staten Island Board of Realtors® (SIBOR), the admission-free public event, “Financial Education Forum to Empower Future Homebuyers,” will be presented in cooperation with the Staten Island Multiple Listing Service (SIMLS), New York City Department of Housing Preservation & Development, United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and a variety of private enterprises and government agencies.

During the forum, experts will provide information about the New York City Down Payment Assistance Program and highlight a variety of financial skills, vital knowledge, and tools that can help prospective homeowners confidently navigate major financial decisions and successfully reach their goals.

“I applaud the members of our Housing Opportunities Committee and their accomplishment under the leadership of 2023 SIBOR President Rosanne La Fata in sculpting a program that fosters homebuyers’ financial literacy within our community,” said Sandy Krueger, CEO of SIBOR and SIMLS. “Knowledge is key when preparing for the purchase of a home, as well as being a homeowner. The goal of SIBOR’s Financial Education Forum is to provide our community members with the information and resources they need to secure their financial future and bring their quest of attaining the ‘American Dream’ to fruition.”

A variety of subjects will be covered,  such as budgeting; debt management; credit solutions and repair; identity-theft protection; savings; home loan programs; homeowners’ insurance, and financial goals.

A question and answer segment will follow the presentation.
