STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (June 12, 2014) The Staten Island Children’s Museum received a generous $7,500 check from the Staten Island Board of Realtors (SIBOR) and cut the ribbon to the newly refurbished exhibit House About It.
Laird Klein, President of SIBOR, presented the check to Dina Rosenthal, Staten Island Children’s Museum executive director at a ceremony held at the Museum, on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, Livingston.
“The Staten Island Board of Realtors is committed to the community of Staten Islandl; and in that vein, there is no community more important than one that benefits our children,” Klein said.
The framed house in the construction-themed exhibit “House about it” allows young
visitors to learn all about the construction process, from start to finish. For the past
18 months, the exhibit was closed due to a green energy capital project ongoing at the
Museum.
The funds were used to refurbish the frame house and to add an additional component
to the exhibit — a viewing platform on the second story with floor- to- ceiling glass
windows that overlook the Museum’s central atrium and provide an up-close view of
the beautiful cylindrical weather vane which hangs down from the new roof’s wind
scoop.
Additionally, a clear plexiglass floor was added to the exhibit, to show the inner
workings of the construction process — plus it’s loads of fun to walk upon!
“The Children’s Museum is so grateful for the generosity of SIBOR and its members. It
is extremely gratifying to see such a deep level of commitment to the children and
families we serve,” said Ms. Rosenthal.
