Staten Island homebuyers and visitors appreciate the uniqueness of the New York City borough, which combines the richness of suburban living with a sophisticated urban lifestyle. Its people and its stories are often unique, as well.

With a flourishing of creative residents, it’s not surprising that Island artists are thrust into the spotlight and widely celebrated for their talent and imaginative contributions.

One such artist is Denny Pizzini, a Veteran who draws his inspiration from classic WWII aircraft “Nose Art.”

As described on Pizzini’s Web page, www.dennydolls.com, he spent four years in the 1950s stationed on a U.S. Strategic Air Command Base as the Crew Chief on a B-36 in the 70th Bomb Squadron.

It was there that he gained first-hand experience painting popular “pin-up girls” onto B-36 bombers.

Returning home to New York City with no aircraft noses to paint, he transformed his favorite pin-up girls into sculptures, creating a handful for friends and family.

The Garibaldi Meucci Museum, a cultural treasure in its own right, is featuring works by Pizzini for a limited time, providing the public with an up-close look at his artistry.

The museum is located at 420 Tompkins Avenue, in the Staten Island community of Rosebank. For exhibit hours, call 718-442-1608.
