SIBOR Website Lists Rentals Available For Hurricane Victims
Realtors work with property owners to provide ‘ terms designed to ease the burden of storm-ravaged victims’
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Staten Island Board of Realtors (SIBOR) is working to provide affordable accommodations for families and individuals pushed from their homes by Hurricane Sandy.
The organization is featuring a special listing of rentals on its Website, http://siborrealtors.com, and is working with FEMA, and city and state agencies, in an effort to secure rental units for victims of the storm.
The selection of rentals, monitored online by the SIBOR-related Staten Island Multiple Listing Service (SIMLS), is “special” because the properties are offered on the site not only by real estate agents, but by homeowners or landlords, as well. Under normal circumstances, properties may be listed on the SIMLS by Realtors only.
“In addition, SIBOR is requesting that each listing come with terms designed to ease the burden of storm-ravaged victims,” said Georgianna Diaz, president of SIBOR.
According to Sandy Krueger, CEO of SIBOR, there is a significant amount of vacant residential space on Staten Island.
At present, there are approximately 75 listings on the site, and the number is expected to grow as more people become aware of it. Featured rentals span the Island, and range from one- and –two family homes to multiple dwellings and apartments of various sizes.
“We need to work together as community to quickly spread the word about this listing platform,” Krueger said. “We’re asking landlords, property owners and Realtors to be as flexible and as generous as possible in light of the current situation.”
Dozens of displaced people already have been relocated to rental units through the efforts of SIBOR and its members.
Non-brokers wanting to post a home-rental or apartment on the site, are asked to email their information to SIBOR at: HurricaneRelief@SIBOR.com.
